There is a new addition to the family, Sharkey the Chesapeake Bay Retriever that doesn't like to hunt. Yep, fully trained retriever that doesn't like chasing ducks that are wounded, prefers balls instead. That's how he ended up in the family. An avid hunter had purchased Sharkey from NC, and found out that he was really destined to be a family dog, who loves people and balls, not ducks. That's how we ended up with Sharkey, rescued from hunting. The saying "that dog won't hunt" is Sharkey's mantra.
This afternoon, bad right eye and all, I attempted to get a few photos of Sharkey. I waited a bit late, it was getting dark around 4:30PM but I had my trusty D800E with a 70-200mm lens so I thought, why not. This is the first time I tried shooting since my detached retina which is not fully healed. The eye issue is a bit of distortion and blur, but I could see enough to frame the image and the camera is set to auto focus so I was good to go. Or, I could always use the other eye which I didn't this afternoon but in the future it's an option if needed. So here is the stately image of Sharkey.
But these kind of images look more like doorstops than dogs. So I got a bit closer. Still no personality in the pose!
Gotta catch him doing what he loves!
Or better yet, chasing what he loves!
Now have to include him with the family, but this looks to staged.
Better to get an image that shows affection like this.
So there you have my little back yard shoot of about 15 minutes grabbing some photo of the new addition Sharkey! I want to get some shots panning his movement, but the light was simply too low for that tonight. I going to try to get him in a full out run, background blurred. Our two Labs died a couple of years ago, and we just couldn't get another dog right away. In fact, I didn't intend on getting another dog knowing what trama losing your dog can be. But time heals and now a new adventure with another loving pet.
